Lipp Narrowly Edged at NCAA Singles Championship

TULSA, Okla. -- Northwestern redshirt sophomore Maddie Lipp made her NCAA Singles Championship debut Wednesday morning, but was narrowly edged in an opening-round matchup.
Lipp gave Belinda Woolcock of Florida -- a No. 9-16 seed in the draw -- all that she could handle but the Wildcat was clipped in a pair of tiebreakers, falling 7-6 (6), 7-6 (7). Lipp came into the match ranked No. 52 in the nation by the ITA, while Woolcock was ranked No. 11.
It will not be the last action that Lipp sees in Tulsa this week, though, as she'll team with Alex Chatt in the doubles tournament beginning on Thursday. The Northwestern duo will open up against Madison Harrison and Kristin Vozniak of Mississippi State.
