Northwestern Baseball Hosts The Will To Live Foundation

EVANSTON, Ill. — In addition to celebrating the grand opening of Rocky and Berenice Miller Park on Sunday, April 3, Northwestern baseball will recognize the Will To Live Foundation.

The Will To Live (WTL) Foundation's mission is to prevent teen suicide by improving the lives and the will to live of teenagers everywhere through education about mental health and encouraging them to recognize the love and hope that exists in each other.

John Trautwein, WTL co-founder and former Northwestern baseball captain, started the nonprofit after his oldest son, Will, took his own life at the family's Atlanta-area home in 2010.  The foundation's focus is to increase teen-suicide awareness by showing teens that they are not alone and that they can feel comfortable reaching out to others for help.

Trautwein, who graduated from Northwestern in 1984 and went on to play professionally for seven years, will be in attendance for Sunday's 1 p.m. CT game against Michigan.

All Northwestern players will wear a special 'Will To Live' jersey during pre-game warm-ups. The jerseys will be auctioned off following the contest with all proceeds going to the Will To Live Foundation.

For more information on the foundation you can visit the Will To Live website and to learn the full story about its creation and its mission read this Northwestern Magazine piece.
