Pigneri, Barham Set Personal Records At San Francisco Distance Carnival

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Senior Elena Barham shaved more than 17 seconds off her personal record and finished sixth in the 10,000m event at the 2016 San Francisco Distance Carnival on Friday.
Barham, the team's leader throughout her senior campaign, finished sixth out of 53 entrants in the event's longest race. Junior Jena Pianin paced Northwestern in the 5,000m event, finishing in 17:22.70, while sophomore Brooke Pigneri set a personal record by more than 50 seconds at 17:35.78.
The Distance Carnival featured 1,700 athletes from all three collegiate divisions and 29 states, as well as Mexico and Canada, competing at Cox Stadium. The 2016 Distance Carnival is the largest in the event's history, surpassing last year's record-breaking meet.

After two weeks off to train, the Wildcats will return to the track in Charlottesville, Virginia on April 22, at the Virginia Challenge.
