Big Ten Announces Championship Pre-Seeds

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten released its list of pre-seeds Monday for this weekend's championships at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.
Northwestern has four pre-seeded wrestlers, as voted on by the conference's coaches.
Dominick Malone (133), Jameson Oster (141), Jason Tsirtsis (149) and Mitch Sliga (174) all received the recognition. The pre-seeds rank the top eight wrestlers in eight weight classes, along with all 14 starters in two weight classes due to the Big Ten receiving nine or more NCAA Championships qualifier allocations in those classes.
Oster and Tsirtsis each received the No. 4 seed after successful seasons. Oster was 11-4 at 141 lbs. with a 4-1 mark against Big Ten competition. He set himself apart with a pin of Nebraska's Anthony Abidin on Feb. 12, and his only loss came against the No. 2 seed, Tommy Thorn of Minnesota. Tsirtsis is fourth at 149 lbs. after a 10-5 campaign. Each of his conference losses were to ranked opponents, with three of them coming against top-10 opponents. Tsirtsis also boasts four wins over ranked foes.
Tsirtsis is the two-time defending conference champion at 149 lbs.
Malone is No. 9 at 133 lbs. after a 20-8 season. He won eight of his 20 matches by fall, ranking among the nation's top-10 in that category. Sliga rounds out the seeding for the Wildcats with a spot at No. 10 at 174 lbs.
Official seeds will be determined Friday, March 4, the day before the championships begin.
Other Northwestern wrestlers competing at the championships include: Garrison White (125), Anthony Petrone (157), Luke Norland (165), Regis Durbin (184), Jacob Berkowitz (197) and Conan Jennings (285).
The Big Ten automatic qualifying allocation is as follows: 125 (7), 133 (9), 141 (7), 149 (6), 157 (7), 165 (6), 174 (9), 184 (7), 197 (6) and 285 (7).
The Big Ten championships begin Saturday, March 5 at 10 a.m. and conclude with the finals on Sunday, March 6 at 3 p.m.
