Wildcats Drop Regular-Season Finale to Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – Christen Inman paced the Wildcats with a game-high 27 points, but Nebraska edged past the Wildcats, 76-67, in their regular-season finale on Sunday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Junior Nia Coffey and senior Maggie Lyon joined in double figures with 19 and 12 points, respectively.

Coffey opened the account for the Wildcats as Northwestern held Nebraska without a bucket for the first three minutes of the game. The Huskers jumped on the board with 7:01 on the clock and used a 7-0 surge to take over. Inman and Coffey teamed up for a pair of buckets to level the game, 7-7, with two minutes remaining in the quarter, but Nebraska regained the lead with a 3-pointer.

The teams exchanged baskets in the early goings of the second frame and tied the game on four occasions before a Maddie Simon triple triggered a 10-0 run for the Huskers. Inman answered with a trey of her own, but Nebraska entered the break with the advantage, 31-23.

The Huskers built a double-digit lead in the third quarter, courtesy of a pair of the 3-pointers down the stretch. Nebraska led by as much as 16, but the Wildcats used a 9-2 run – capped with a Lyon triple – to cut the deficit to nine with 6:02 left in regulation.

Inman scored seven points in the final minutes for the 'Cats, but the Huskers hung on for the win.

For the game, Northwestern shot 38 percent (25-66) from the field, 21 percent (4-19) from 3-point range, and 65 percent (13-20) from the charity stripe. Nebraska connected on 50 percent (29-58) of its shots, including 38 percent (5-13) from beyond the arc and 43 percent (13-30) from the free-throw line.

The Wildcats are back in action on Wednesday, March 2, for the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis.
