Seidel Wins 3000M At Orange & Blue Open In Return To Competition
2/20/2016 5:25:00 PM | Women's Cross Country & Track
CHAMPAIGN, Illinois – In her first competition since the 2015 outdoor track season nearly a year ago, sophomore Isabel Seidel won the 3,000 meter event at Saturday's Orange & Blue Open. The event wrapped up the indoor track schedule for the Wildcats, who now look ahead to kicking off the outdoor slate in April in San Francisco.
2016 ORANGE & BLUE OPEN - RESULTS
Seidel made an immediate impact for Northwestern last season as a freshman during both the cross country and track seasons, but missed the 2015 fall campaign and the first two weekends of track competition in 2016 recovering from injury. The Nashotah, Wisconsin, native finished in 10:05.15, edging teammate Andi Ostenso (10:08.26) by three seconds for the win.
"This is the most consistent our program has been from week-to-week in training and racing over the last year," said head coach 'AHavahla Haynes. "That progress is exciting as we prepare for the outdoor season."
Senior Allison Jacobsen (10:32.61), junior Ellen Schmitz (10:36.15) and sophomore Brooke Pigneri (10:38.83) rounded out a quintet of Wildcats in the Top-7 of the 3,000. Freshmen Ashley Ko (10:53.93) and Grace Kelley (11:08.67), and junior Hannah Rose (11:20.47) completed the Northwestern contingent in the event.
The lone Wildcats entry in the 800 Meter race, sophomore Victoria Bianco, crossed the line in 2:33.34.
Northwestern now sets its sights on the outdoor track season, which will begin on April 2 at the San Francisco Distance Carnival.
