EVANSTON, Ill. — Four Wildcats scored in double figures on Saturday afternoon to lead Northwestern to a 76-60 win over Purdue in the Big Ten home opener on Saturday at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Northwestern (13-2, 2-0 B1G) was led by Nia Coffey's 19 point, eight-rebound effort, while Lauren Douglas matched a season-high with 18 points and Christen Inman and Ashley Deary chipped in 16 and 11, respectively.

Douglas also matched season-highs with four assists and three steals.

Northwestern's 13-2 start matches its start to the 2014-15 season and is the best since the team went 15-1 to begin the 1995-96 season.

The 'Cats shot 46 percent (29-of-62) from the field and 47 percent (8-of-17) from beyond the arc, while holding Purdue to just 2-of-12 (17 percent) from deep.

Deary notched a pair of steals in the game, which moved her into a tie for first place with Stacey Thomas (Michigan, 1997-2000) as the Big Ten's all-time steals leader at 372.

The Boilermakers jumped out to an 8-0 run to start the game, but the play of Inman and Douglas helped Northwestern get back into the game. The duo combined for 19 points in the first quarter, and Inman's and-1 play in the final seconds of the period gave the Wildcats a 20-19 advantage. NU would hold the lead for the remainder of the game.

Northwestern used a 12-0 run over the end of the first quarter and beginning of the second quarter, including six straight points from Deary, to build a 26-19 lead at the 7:16 mark of the first half. NU played lock-down defense in the second quarter, limiting Purdue to just seven points on 3-of-12 shooting. The 'Cats outscored the Boilermakers 19-7 in the quarter and built a 13-point lead, 39-26, going into halftime.

The Wildcats forced 11 turnovers in the first half and capitalized by scoring 14 points off those turnovers.

The second half was all Northwestern as the Wildcats shot 52 percent (16-for-31) over the final two quarters and eventually built its largest lead of the game, 73-50, in the fourth quarter on a Coffey layup with 3:40 remaining.

The Wildcats will host No. 14 Ohio State on Tuesday, Jan. 3 at Welsh-Ryan Arena. Tip is set for 8 p.m. CT.
