Three #B1GCats Will Compete in Quarterfinals at #Midlands54

EVANSTON, Ill. – At the conclusion of the first session of the 54th annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships, Northwestern sits in 14th place with 23.5 points. Northwestern earned extra team points in nine of their matches in the opening rounds.
Leading the charge for the Wildcats into the quarterfinals was sophomore Conan Jennings and two freshmen making their Midlands debuts, Sebastian Rivera and Ryan Deakin, both wrestling unattached during their redshirt seasons.
Jennings earned his spot in the final eight with upset wins over seven-seed Ray O'Donnell from Princeton and 10-seed Cody Crawford of Oregon State. He will face number-two seed Tanner Hall from Arizona State with a spot to the semifinals on the line. Rivera will face the number three seed, Shakur Laney, from Ohio, while Deakin will face top-seeded Brandon Sorensen from Iowa.
Sophomore Johnny Sebastian (165) and junior Mitch Sliga (184) will continue their tournament runs in the consolation bracket this evening after starting their day with two straight victories before falling in the round of 16.
Also alive for the Wildcats in wrestlebacks are redshirt-freshmen Anthony Rubinetti (125) and Jason Ipsarides (133), sophomore Regis Durbin (197) and senior Jacob Berkowitz (197).
Session two begins at 7 p.m. at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
