EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern Cross Country announced their indoor and outdoor track schedules for the winter and spring of 2017, featuring six events in sunny California and three in Illinois.

"The indoor and outdoor track seasons are a critical step in development for our women," said Wildcats head coach 'AHavahla Haynes. "Having the opportunity to compete against some of the best in the nation will give us a great indication of where we're at as a group. We're looking forward to continuing the momentum built down the stretch of the cross country season this fall."

The 'Cats kick off their schedule in Champaign, Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 14 with their first indoor meet, the Illini Classic. They continue with a split-squad day competing at both the Meyo Invitational (South Bend, Ind.) and USA Track and Field Cross Country Championships (Bend, Ore.) scheduled for Feb. 4.

The next week, the #B1GCats head to Seattle, Wash. for a weekend of competition at the Husky Invitational that spans both Friday and Saturday. They then return to Champaign for the Orange & Blue Invitational on Feb. 18.

Following indoor competition in January and February, the 'Cats will make an appearance at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival on Friday, March 31 in San Francisco, Calif. to kick off the outdoor campaign. The next day, the team will be in nearby Palo Alto to participate in the Stanford Invitational.

The following week, the Wildcats return home to compete in the Chicagoland Championships on Saturday, April 8, before heading back to California for another split-squad weekend. They'll compete in the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. and the Mount Sac Invitational in Cerritos, Calif. on April 13 and 14. Later that month, Northwestern competes in the two-day Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville (April 21 and 22).

To wrap up their slate, the 'Cats will return to the Golden State for another split-squad day competing in the Payton Jordan Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. and the Oxy Invitational in Pepperdine, Calif. on May 5.

During the 2016 cross country season, the Wildcats were led by freshman Aubrey Roberts. She claimed the top times for NU in both the 5K and 6K, led the team over the finish line in five different events, and capped off her rookie campaign with a Top-50 individual finish representing Northwestern at the 2016 NCAA National Championships..
