EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's offense erupted in a 88-66 win over Evansville Sunday afternoon at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Eleven Wildcats got on the scoreboard with two reaching double figures. Nia Coffey scored a game high 30 points, just five shy of her career high, and Amber Jamison did set a new career high with 15. It was the third 30-point game of Coffey's career.
Senior Lauren Douglas scored career point No. 1,000 early in the third quarter. She is the second Wildcat to reach the milestone this season (Ashley Deary did it on Nov. 13) and the fourth active player on the team to have 1,000 points.
Douglas finished with nine points overall, as did freshman Abbie Wolf.
The 'Cats shot an impressive 53.8% from the field, their highest percentage since a win against Chicago State on Nov. 14, 2014. Coffey and Jamison both shot over 80 percent in their outbursts.
Ashley Deary posted another strong all-around performance. The senior guard had eight points, seven assists, five steals, four rebounds and a block.
All four freshmen scored against the Aces, with Byrdy Galernik and Bry Hopkins both registering their first collegiate points.
The Wildcats started the game on a tear, outscoring Evansville 31-12 in the first quarter. They tied their record for points scored in a quarter, set last year against Alcorn State. Coffey had 14 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting and reached double figures for the 54th consecutive game.
After heading into the half with a 43-36 lead, Northwestern ran away in the third quarter, outscoring the aces 25-14 to take a 68-50 lead. The team closed out the game in the fourth quarter, spreading the ball around to record a season-high 27 assists by the end of the contest.
Chicago's Big Ten Team is back in action on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. when it welcomes Virginia to Welsh-Ryan Arena as a part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
