Ashley Deary named to 2017 Nancy Lieberman Watch List

Senior guard Ashley Deary was named to the Nancy Lieberman Watch List for 2017, which recognizes the top point guard in women's college basketball.
The watch list includes 20 point guards, which will be narrowed down to 10 in mid-February, with the final five announcement in March. The winner will be announced at the Women's Final Four in Dallas, Texas.
The award is named after Nancy Lieberman who is a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, competed in two Olympics, received three All American honors, won two collegiate national championships and two National Player of the Year awards at Old Dominion University. The award recognizes both leadership and play-making abilities.
The reigning Big Ten Player of the Year led the country in steals (4.34 spg), and broke Northwestern's all-time career steals record last season with 363 total steals just midway through her junior year. After accumulating 125 steals through 29 games last season, Deary shattered the Big Ten's single-season steals record – a league mark that stood for 20 years. She recorded 20 double-digit scoring games during her junior campaign and tallied five double-doubles.
