Three Signees Named McDonald's All American Nominees

Galernik, Scheid and Wolf will join Northwestern next season

EVANSTON, Ill. — Three members of the Northwestern women's basketball recruiting class were nominated for the McDonald's All American Games, it was announced this week. 

Byrdy Galernik (Perrysburg, Ohio/Toledo Central Catholic), Abi Scheid (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) and Abbie Wolf (White Plains, N.Y./Greenwich) earned a chance to play in the all-star game, which features the best high school senior basketball players in the country. 

For the sixth straight year, the McDonald's All American Games will be played in Chicago. It will be broadcast on ESPNU on March 30 and the final team of 24 will be selected later this month. 

Galernik, the 2015 TRAC Player of the Year and District Player of the Year, is one of the top point guards in the Midwest. She has averaged 18.1 points per game, and has led Toledo Central Catholic to TRAC Championship and District Finals. In addition to her basketball prowess, she has earned All-Conference and All-District Academic honors. The Ohio native also played soccer and ran track in high school.

The No. 68 recruit in the nation according to ESPN Hoopgurlz, Scheid is a three-time MVP at Elk River in Minnesota. In addition, she has logged over 1,000 career points, and is a three-time All-Northwestern Conference team member. Scheid holds the record at Elk River for most points scored in a single game, with 40. She was a multi-sport athlete in high school, playing volleyball, soccer, and running track. 

Wolf, who was ranked No. 76 by ESPN Hoopgurlz, is a two-time All-FCIAC First Team member, and has twice been named to the All-State team. During her junior campaign at Greenwich, Wolf averaged 16 points, three blocks, and 11 rebounds per game. She was named the 2015 MVP for basketball and volleyball for her high school.

Nominees for the game were made by high school coaches, athletic directors, principals and members of the McDonald's All American Games Selection Committee.
