EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern will proudly host its fifth-annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) celebration event prior to the women's basketball game against Minnesota on Sunday, Feb. 7. The pre-game event begins at 12:30 p.m. with the game between the Wildcats and Gophers schedule to tip at 2 p.m.
Registration is now available online at NUsports.com/groups using the promo code NGWSD. The event is open to participants in 8th grade or younger.
The event will include an interactive session where participants will learn about maintaining a healthy lifestyle from Northwestern student-athletes, coaches, staff and industry professionals. The interactive session will be followed with keynote speaker Kate Drohan and a Q&A session with event participants.
Drohan is in her 15th season as the head coach of Northwestern Softball. She has led the Wildcats to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances, two Big Ten championships and two top-three finishes at the Women's College World Series. Kate is a two-time Big Ten Coach of the Year and her staff was named the NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year in 2006.
The event will take place inside the Nicolet Football Center and check in will begin at 12:15 p.m.
While NGWSD started in 1987 as a single event in our nation's capital to honor Olympic volleyball star Flo Hyman, the day has since grown into a nationwide commemoration spanning all 50 states. Now in its 30th year, NGWSD is jointly organized by the National Girls and Women in Sport Coalition. The Coalition combines the experience and resources of four premiere girls- and women-serving organizations in the United States: Girls Incorporated, the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport, National Women's Law Center, and the Women's Sports Foundation.
Tickets for the event are just $3 for participants and family members and that price covers the event, as well as a ticket to the women's basketball game. Tickets can be picked up on the day of the event, but pre-registration is required.

February 7 is also Northwestern's annual Women's Basketball Coaches Association Pink Zone game. The 'Cats will honor doctors from Northwestern Memorial's Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center of Northwestern University during the game against Gophers.
