Lipp Tabbed Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week

Redshirt sophomore went undefeated at Wildcat Duals

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern redshirt sophomore Maddie Lipp has been recognized as the Big Ten Women's Tennis Player of the Week the conference office announced Tuesday.
 
It is the first such honor of Lipp's career.
 
The Lake Forest, Illinois, native posted a perfect record in both singles and doubles play to pace Northwestern at the Wildcat Duals over the weekend.
 
Lipp, who is No. 61 in the ITA preseason singles rankings, started off the Duals by earning a 7-6, 5-7, 6-2 victory over 41st-ranked Andie Daniell of Alabama. She followed up the performance by rolling to a 6-3, 6-2 win over TCU's Olaya Garrido-Rivas on Saturday.
 
Lipp also went 2-0 in doubles play with partner Alex Chatt. The nation's seventh-ranked duo cruised past Alabama's Erin Routliffe and Dani Spielmann 6-1 on Friday and followed up the performance with a 6-3 win over TCU's Marie Norris and Alexis Pereira on Saturday.
 
The Wildcats open their dual match season Saturday and Sunday when they travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma, for ITA Kickoff Weekend. NU opens up against Arizona State at 10 a.m. Saturday before facing either host Oklahoma State or Notre Dame on Sunday. The weekend's winner of two matches advances to the ITA Indoor Team National Championships Feb. 5-8 in Madison, Wisconsin.
