'Cats welcome DePaul, Alabama, TCU

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Following two months off from competition, the Northwestern women's tennis team returns to action at Combe Tennis Center this weekend as it hosts the Wildcat Duals.

Friday's action opens with matches between TCU and DePaul starting at noon before the Wildcats square off against competitors from Alabama at 3:30 p.m. Saturday's matchups feature Northwestern and TCU facing off at 11 a.m. before DePaul and TCU meet up at 3 p.m. Competition concludes Sunday with Alabama and TCU at 9 a.m. followed by the 'Cats taking on DePaul at 1 p.m.

After this weekend's matches, Northwestern opens up its true dual match season next weekend in Stillwater, Oklahoma, as it participates in ITA Kickoff Weekend.

The Wildcats begin the dual match season with a No. 26 national ranking. Maddie Lipp represents Northwestern in the ITA preseason singles rankings at No. 61. In doubles, the team of Lipp and Alex Chatt have earned a preseason national ranking of No. 7.

Northwestern returns a veteran lineup this season headlined by senior Alicia Barnett who played No. 1 singles and doubles for the Wildcats last season and earned her second consecutive All-Big Ten selection. Erin Larner enjoyed an outstanding initial season for NU a year ago as she was recognized as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year while playing No. 2 singles and pairing with Barnett at No. 1 doubles.

Chatt -- like Larner -- put together a terrific freshman season as she posted a 19-5 singles record in dual match play, including a 10-1 mark against Big Ten foes. Additional returners to the Northwestern lineup include Brooke Richbieth, Jillian Rooney and Manon Peri, the latter returning after missing the majority of the dual match season in 2015 due to a knee injury.

Freshman Lee Or, a native of Israel, is the lone newcomer on the Wildcats' roster for head coach Claire Pollard who enters her 18th season at the helm. Pollard is joined by first-year assistant coach Laura Gordon.
