#B1GCats, Tigers Play to 0-0 Double-Overtime Draw
9/6/2015 9:48:00 PM | Women's Soccer
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. — The Wildcats' backline prevailed on Sunday night at Toyota Park as Northwestern (4-1-1) battled to a double-overtime draw against Missouri (2-1-3).
The Tigers kept Northwestern's defense and sophomore goal keeper Lauren Clem on their toes, outshooting the #B1GCats, 16-5. Clem anchored NU's backline with six saves on the night.
Chicago's Big Ten Team created a quality chance with seconds left in the first half as junior midfielder Maria Grygleski sent a corner inside the area to freshman Brenna Lovera, but her header attempt went just inches high of the goal.
Missouri nearly scored on a set piece in the 73rd minute, but Clem registered her fourth save of the game to keep the Tigers off the board.
The closest scoring opportunity for Northwestern came halfway through the second overtime period, as junior defender Kourtney Scott dribbled her way past two Tiger defenders to find an open field in front of her. Her shot was fielded and rookie keeper Kelsey Dossey tallied a save to keep the game scoreless.
The 'Cats return to action next week when they head to the Centennial State to take on Colorado State (Sept. 11) and Colorado (Sept. 13). Northwestern will then open Big Ten play on the road with matches against Purdue and Indiana.
