Duo wins doubles title, splits singles crown

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Redshirt sophomore Maddie Lipp and sophomore Alex Chatt teamed up to win the doubles title and split the singles crown as Northwestern concluded action at its own Wildcat Invite on Sunday.
In doubles play, Lipp and Chatt started their day with a convincing 6-0 win over Michigan State's Lexi Baylis and Erin Faulkner in the semifinal round before taking down DePaul's Ana Vladutu and Rebeca Mitrea 6-2 in the title match.
Lipp and Chatt also faced individuals from DePaul in the semifinals of the Purple singles draw. Lipp worked three sets to defeat Mitrea 6-2, 0-6, 6-2 while Chatt picked up a straight-set victory over Marina Cozac 6-4, 6-4. The Northwestern duo did not square off in a championship match and shared the title instead.
Also in action for the Wildcats, the doubles team of Lee OR and Jillian Rooney dropped a pair of matches, falling 6-3 to the Michigan State team of Davina Nguyen and Athena Truilliot and 6-2 to Pittsburgh's Lolade Ogungbeson and Amber Washington. In singles play, Or fell 6-3, 6-4 to LSU's Skylar Holloway while Rooney was defeated 6-3, 6-2 by Truilliot.
Northwestern returns to action next weekend when select individuals compete at the ITA All-American in Riviera, California.
