FRANKLIN, TENN. -- Led by freshman Stephanie Lau's 4-under 68, Northwestern is in second place, one stroke off the lead, after one round of the 15th Annual Mason Rudolph Women's Golf Championships hosted by Vanderbilt University at The Legends Club. The Wildcats carded a 5-under 283 over the first 18 holes of the 54-hole event that will continue on Saturday and Sunday in Tennessee.

After a bogey on her first hole of the day, Lau carded five birdies and 12 pars the rest of the way en route to a 4-under 68. The rookie, who improved in each round of the season-opening Dick McGuire Invitational last weekend, sits in third place overall in the 90-player field.
Lau was backed up by reigning Big Ten Player of the Year Hannah Kim and All-Big Ten junior Kacie Komoto at 1-under. Komoto birdied six of her first nine holes, while Kim birdied three of her final four. Senior Kaitlin Park, competing as an individual, carded an even-par 72. Classmate Suchaya Tangkamolprasert finished the round at 1-over, and sophomore Sarah Cho carded a 4-over 76 in the first 18 holes.
The 2015 Mason Rudolph Championship features a top-flight field of 17 teams, including seven of the Top-25 programs from the end of the 2015 season. Northwestern, ranked 12th in the Golfweek 2015 preseason rankings and 13th at the end of the 2014-15 campaign, will take on the host Commodores, ranked 19th at the end of the 2015 season as well as Alabama (25), Auburn, GRU-Augusta, Baylor (14), UCF, Georgia, Houston, LSU (11), Louisville, Michigan State, MTSU, South Carolina (6), Tulane, Virginia (15), and Yale.
Eighteen holes will take place on Friday through Sunday, with fixed tee times on number one and 10 starting at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday and 7:30 a.m. CT Sunday. The tournament will take place on the South Course and is formatted as a par-72, 6,321-yard setup. Each team will play five golfers with four counting towards the team score in each round, while Northwestern's lineup also features one golfer (Park) competing as an individual and not eligible for the team score.
