Women's Hoops tabbed No. 12 in Athlon Preseason Poll

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Northwestern women's basketball team has been tabbed No. 12 in a preseason poll released by Athlon Sports Magazine. Eleven-time National Champion Connecticut debut at the top spot, while Big Ten opponents Ohio State and Maryland are ranked among Athlon's top 25. The Wildcats' 2015 Big Ten/ACC Challenge opponent North Carolina made the list at No. 20.
The #B1GCats are coming off a season that saw a 23-9 overall record, which marked the program's most victories since the 1995-96 season. NU received a bid to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1997 and, in February 2015, entered the Associated Press top-25 poll for the first time since 1996.
Four starters return for head coach Joe McKeown, and all four scored in double figures last season. The quartet includes seniors Maggie Lyon and Lauren Douglas, plus juniors Nia Coffey and Ashley Deary.
Northwestern tips off the season when they host Howard on Sunday, Nov. 15.
