Wildcats Release 2015 Women's Soccer Schedule

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Fourth-year coach Michael Moynihan announced the 2015 Northwestern women's soccer schedule on Thursday. The 19-game regular-season slate features seven contests at Toyota Park, home of Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire, while renovations continue for Lanny & Sharon Martin Stadium through the fall. In addition, the Wildcats will face seven opponents who earned bids to the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
Before the regular-season schedule gets underway, the Wildcats will take on crosstown rival DePaul for an exhibition match on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 4 p.m. The 2015 season officially begins when Northwestern hosts North Dakota on Friday, Aug. 21, at New Trier High School in Wilmette, Illinois. NU follows up with a home contest at Evanston Township High School against Valparaiso, an NCAA Tournament team in 2014, on Sunday, Aug. 23.
"We have put together a very competitive non-conference schedule that will certainly test us before we head into the always grueling Big Ten season," said head coach Michael Moynihan. "There are a few new teams as well that will provide different looks for us and add to the excitement."
Chicago's Big Ten Team heads to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for its first true road game against Boston University (Aug. 28) at Marquette's Valley Field, before facing off against Santa Clara at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Indiana, on Sunday, Aug. 30.
The Wildcats launch their September schedule with back-to-back games in Bridgeview, Illinois, hosting both St. Louis (Sept. 4) and Missouri (Sept. 6) at Toyota Park. Northwestern visited both squads during the 2014 season, claiming a 1-0 victory over the Billikens after earning a rain-soaked scoreless draw against the Tigers.
Northwestern will get comfortable with life on the road, playing a season-high four consecutive contests away from Greater Chicago Area. The #B1GCats will play a pair of games in the Centennial State against Colorado State (Sept. 11) and Colorado (Sept. 13), before wrapping up the road tour with two Big Ten matchups at Purdue (Sept. 18) and Indiana (Sept. 20).
"The Big Ten season will be very different this year, since we will not be playing everyone in the conference," Moynihan said. "This year we will not see Minnesota and Ohio State during the regular season, so the importance of every game grows even more in the standings. We will have to be sharp and firing on all cylinders when the Big Ten season begins."
The Wildcats will return to their 2015 home at Toyota Park to host the Big Ten's newest members Maryland and Rutgers. NU welcomes Maryland on Thursday, Sept. 24, for its conference home opener and will wrap up the week with a matchup versus Rutgers. The `Cats kick off October when they host Big Ten Regular Season Champion Penn State at the MLS Stadium on the first Sunday of the month. Chicago's Big Ten Team upset the sixth-ranked Nittany Lions in the opening-round of 2014 Big Ten Tournament for the squad's first tournament win since 1997, and their first win over perennial national power Penn State since 1998.
NU travels to the state of Michigan, taking on Wolverines in Ann Arbor on Oct. 8 and meets Michigan State on its home turf on Sunday, Oct. 11, for a noon matchup. The 2015 home schedule concludes with two games at Toyota Park. Nebraska heads to Bridgeview on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m., while Iowa is in town the same weekend on Sunday, Oct. 18, for Senior Day. NU will recognize its seniors in a pre-game ceremony at Toyota Park.
The `Cats take on Illinois on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m., in Champaign, Illinois, before closing out their regular-season slate against reigning Big Ten Champions Wisconsin on Wednesday, Oct. 28.
The 2015 Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals are slated for Sunday, Nov. 1, and the B1G Final Four will take place Nov. 6-8.
Group tickets will be made available for all games at Toyota Park, with the option of tailgate group opportunities or field-side seats. Your group of up to 40 people can be close to all the Wildcat action with field-side seating or bring your group to enjoy a tailgate before cheering on Chicago's Big Ten Team.
