NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Northwestern assistant coach Allison Guth was named the head women's basketball coach at Yale University, the school announced Thursday, May 21. She had been a valuable member of the Wildcats staff since the 2012-13 season.
"We are really excited for Allison and also for Yale as they are getting both an outstanding coach and person," said Northwestern head coach Joe McKeown. "Her experience at Northwestern helped prepare her to reach her goal to become a head coach. I know that she loved her experience at Yale and is truly passionate about the school and the Ivy League."
"I couldn't be more enthusiastic about my opportunity to lead Yale women's basketball," said Guth. Yale is an incredibly special institution in that it provides a world-class experience academically, athletically and socially. I am proud to represent a University that stands for everything that is good and right in college athletics."
In three seasons on staff, the Arlington Heights, Ill., native helped the Wildcats to 53 victories and two postseason berths. Northwestern enjoyed a particularly memorable 2014-15 campaign that saw 23 wins, the program's most since 1995-96. Guth also helped Chicago's Big Ten Team reach the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament for the first time ever and receive its first NCAA Tournament bid since 1997.
Guth is no stranger to Yale. Prior to joining McKeown's staff, she spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs. The Elis finished in second place in the Ivy League in each of Guth's seasons in New Haven. She has also spent time on staffs at DePaul, Missouri and Loyola.
Guth becomes the 10th coach in Yale women's basketball history. The team finished with a 13-15 overall record in 2014-15 and a 7-7 mark in the Ivy League, good for a third-place finish.
