EVANSTON, Ill. -- The Big Ten and Atlantic Coast Conferences announced on Wednesday the matchups for the ninth annual Big Ten/ACC Women's Basketball Challenge. Northwestern hits the road for this year's edition of the Challenge and will visit North Carolina on Wednesday, Dec. 2.

This is the second all-time meeting between the Wildcats and Tar Heels as North Carolina won the first and only matchup. These two squads met during the 1993-94 season when the Tar Heels recorded a 98-75 win over NU.

North Carolina wrapped up a 2014-15 season that saw the squad reach the NCAA Sweet 16. The Tar Heels finished the year with a 26-9 overall record and a 10-6 mark in ACC play.

The annual challenge is extended through the 2020 season and will feature 14 matchups for the second consecutive season. Challenge games are set for a two-day format, beginning Wednesday, Dec. 2 with Indiana and Maryland hosting home games, and Illinois, Iowa, Northwestern, Ohio State and Wisconsin playing on the road. On Dec. 3, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn State and Purdue will serve as host teams, while Minnesota and Rutgers will play road games.

In last year's Challenge, the ACC and Big Ten closed out the two-day event in a 7-7 tie, with Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Northwestern recording wins.

The Big Ten and ACC conference offices determine the schedule each season. In addition, the official title of the Challenge will rotate each year. The 2015 event will be referred to as the Big Ten/ACC Women's Basketball Challenge and will continue to mirror the official title of the two conferences' Challenge agreement for men's basketball.

The Big Ten and the ACC have long been among the most competitive conferences on the women's basketball scene. For the 10th time in the last 15 seasons, the Big Ten sent at least seven teams to the NCAA Tournament in 2015, as Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State and Rutgers all advanced to the national tournament. In addition, Michigan advanced to the WNIT semifinals.

Last season, the ACC saw eight women's basketball teams selected to the NCAA Tournament, while three advanced to the WNIT.

Game times, as well as television and broadband coverage, will be announced at a later date. The complete schedule of home/away matchups can be found below. For more information about the ACC/Big Ten Women's Basketball Challenge, including complete challenge history, log on to bigten.org.
