Big Ten Tournament - Day Four Recap
4/26/2015 12:00:00 AM | Women's Tennis
Michigan 4, Ohio State 0
For all of Michigan's success over the last decade, one thing continued to elude the Wolverines: a Big Ten tournament title. After falling in the conference tournament title match each of the last 10 years, Michigan finally earned the crown as it defeated second-seeded Ohio State, 4-0.
The matchup was played indoors at Combe Tennis Center.
Doubles competition proved to be a toss-up as all three matches went down to the wire and approached completion at the same time. The Buckeyes won in a tiebreaker at No. 3 and had a match point in a tiebreaker at No. 1 but the Wolverines rallied back to win before taking the match at No. 2, 8-6, to take the early lead.
All three of Michigan's singles wins proved to be convincing. Emina Bektas won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 to make it 2-0 before Ronit Yurovsky won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 to pull the Wolverines within one victory of the win. Sarah Lee clinched the title for Michigan by earning a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 4 spot in the lineup.
