Michigan 4, Penn State 1
Top-seeded Michigan got a battle from fourth-seeded Penn State but the Wolverines advanced to Sunday's championship match by virtue of a 4-1 victory.
Michigan took the early lead as it captured the doubles points. The Wolverines got wins by identical 8-3 scores at Nos. 2 and 3 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
In singles action, 117th-ranked Sarah Lee barely broke a sweat as she didn't surrender a game in winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. At the top spot in the lineup, No. 28 Emika Bektas got Michigan within one victory of the match win with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph.
However, the four remaining matches on the courts were still in doubt as Penn State was up a set in two of the matches, even at a set apiece in another and down a set but headed to a second-set tiebreaker in another.
The Nittany Lions got on board with Devan McCluskey's 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 5, but moments later Ronit Yurovsky clinched the win for Michigan as she completed a 6-1, 7-6 (4) win at No. 2.
Ohio State 4, Northwestern 1
Ohio State, the tournament's No. 2 seed, withstood a late charge by host Northwestern to advance to Sunday's championship match, defeating the Wildcats, 4-1.
