EVANSTON, Ill. -- The 21st-ranked Northwestern women's tennis team returns home this weekend to take on two new Big Ten opponents. For the first time as conference rivals, the Wildcats will meet Rutgers at 11 a.m. Saturday before an Easter Sunday showdown with Maryland that also begins at 11 a.m.

Northwestern has never played either Rutgers or Maryland in program history.

The 8-5 Wildcats have won four of their previous five dual matches, including three in Big Ten play. Most recently, Northwestern handled Michigan State to the tune of a 5-2 victory. The `Cats are 5-2 inside the Combe Tennis Center this season.

There have been several standout players for Northwestern to this point in the season. Freshman Alex Chatt has been a consistent force, racking up a 10-3 record in dual matches, including an 8-1 mark when playing positions four and five. Fellow freshman Erin Larner is 8-5 in duals and 21-9 overall. Larner has played in spots one through four and has been successful at each one. Senior leader Lok Sze Leung is also having a strong 2015 campaign with an 8-4 mark in dual matches between the third and fourth positions.

Rutgers comes to Evanston in the midst of a five-match losing streak. The Scarlet Knights are 6-10 overall and 0-7 in conference play. In its last time out, Rutgers was edged by Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Maryland is ranked No. 75 in the ITA national poll with a 9-9 overall mark and a 2-5 record in the Big Ten. The Terrapins have dropped their previous five conference matches.

Both matches are scheduled to be played outdoors at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center.

After a trip north to take on Minnesota and Wisconsin next weekend, Northwestern is back at home in two weeks to wrap up regular season play with matches against Iowa and Nebraska. Big Ten play culminates with the 2015 Big Ten tournament, which will be hosted by Northwestern.
