Wildcats Hit the Road for Pair of Weekend Clashes

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern ventures away from home for the first time in over a month this weekend to take on conference foe Ohio State and Indiana in a scheduled non-conference match.
The 28th-ranked Wildcats (4-3, 1-0) play at No. 22 Ohio State Friday morning at 11 a.m. CT before traveling to Bloomington to take on Indiana on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. CT.
NU is coming off a dominant 6-1 win over No. 35 Texas in Evanston last weekend. The 'Cats won each doubles match and five singles matches to secure the win. Freshman Erin Larner won a 6-0, 6-4 decision at No. 2 to clinch the match for Northwestern. The win was her second of the weekend, bringing her 2015 record to 5-2.
Alex Chatt has also had a strong start to the season, posting a 6-1 mark so far in the dual season with four wins at No. 5 and a pair of victories in the fourth spot. Larner, Chatt and Alicia Barnett boast 1-0 marks in conference play after wins against Penn State on Feb. 14.
Northwestern has dominated the all-time series with Ohio State. The Wildcats lead it 38-6 and have won 16 in a row, including both regular season and postseason matches, dating back to the 2003 season. NU won 6-1 in Evanston last season and then again 4-0 in the Big Ten tournament.
The 'Cats lead the all-time series with Indiana 30-25 and have won 19 in a row.
Ohio State opens conference play on Friday. The Buckeyes are 6-4 overall with wins over ranked Arizona State, Tennessee and Georgia Tech. OSU is in the midst of a two-match losing streak at the hands of Texas Tech and Baylor. The Buckeyes are led by Sandy Niehaus, who is 7-2 at Nos. 3 and 4 and Miho Kowase, who is 7-3 at Nos. 4 and 5.
The Wildcats and Hoosiers are slated for a non-conference match on Saturday. Indiana enters the weekend 9-2 with its most recent outing a 6-1 non-conference loss to Illinois. Katie Klyczek has been a strong force for Indiana at No. 1 singles with an 8-3 record. Alecia Kauss has a 7-4 mark while playing at No. 2.
Northwestern returns home on Friday, March 20 to take on in-state rival Illinois at 5 p.m.
