Wildcats Outdoor Track Season Kicks Off In Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- As the temperatures in Chicago climb towards spring, Northwestern cross country is headed south to kick off the 2015 outdoor track season. The `Cats will run on Friday and Saturday, March 20-21, at the John Mitchell Alabama Relays on the campus of the University of Alabama.

The outdoor campaign begins on Friday evening at 6:55 p.m. CT with a pair of Wildcats competing in the 1,500m event. Junior Rachel Weathered posted three of Northwestern's top-five One-Mile times during the indoor season this winter, and will be joined by freshman Isabel Seidel.
Friday's action at the Sam Bailey Track & Field Stadum wraps up with the 5,000m race at 8:15 p.m. CT. Andrea Ostenso leads eight Wildcats in the field, including Mallory Abel, Elena Barham, Allison Jacobson, Elena Miller, Megan O'Brien, Ellen Schmitz and Renee Wellman. Ostenso, a sophomore from Ladysmith, Wis., registered Northwestern's two-fastest 5,000m times of the winter, including a scorching 16:31.66 at The Meyo Intivational on Feb. 7.
The Wildcats finish the John Mitchell Relays on Saturday, March 21, in the Distance Medley Relay. Ostenso, Seidel and Weathered will be joined on the track by sophomore Jena Pianin, who owns Northwestern's fastest 800m and One-Mile efforts of the indoor season, and three of the Wildcats Top-4 times in the 3,000m event.
This weekend's event is also homecoming of sorts for head coach April Likhite, who began her coaching career at the University of Alabama as an assistant coach for both men's and women's track and field and cross country.
