EVANSTON, Ill.
-- Northwestern travels to Hammond, La., this weekend to lock horns with the Southeastern Louisiana Lions in a three-game series on Pat Kennelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

The Wildcats are coming off their first win of the season on Sunday, Feb. 22 against Villanova at the Irish Alamo Invitational in San Antonio. Northwestern raced out to a 6-0 lead behind a solid start from sophomore Joe Schindler. In his first start of the season, the second-year pitcher scattered five hits over five innings, while adding five strikeouts as he secured his first victory since Feb. 22, 2014. Junior Jake Stolley was sharp in relief by going 2.1 scoreless innings to pick up his first career save. Stolley has surrendered only one hit in seven innings of relief this season and opponents are batting just .045 against him.

Offensively, NU got multi-hit efforts from four different players against Villanova. Junior Zach Jones doubled twice and scored a pair of runs in his team's first win of the season. Scott Heelan also had two hits, including his fourth double of the young season. The veteran catcher is batting .391 with 23 at-bats in five games this season. Reid Hunter has also been a key contributor in the lineup. He leads the squad with 10 hits and three RBI through two weekends.

On the other side of the diamond, the Lions are 5-3 on the young season with the three losses coming in their last four games. Southeastern Louisiana played Michigan State last time out, losing 9-2. The Wildcats dropped a close 3-2 contest to the Spartans at the Surprise College Baseball Classic in Surprise, Ariz., on Feb. 15.

The Lions are batting .285 as a team this spring with a trio of hitters at .380 or better. Julian Service is batting .444 in five games, while Kevin Carr is hitting .440 with four doubles and seven runs in eight games. Ryan Byers, batting .345, has a team-high seven RBI.

Southeastern Louisiana has a 4.63 staff ERA. This weekend's projected starters are a combined 3-2 on the season with a 3.49 ERA. Saturday's probable starter is Jake Johnson who has not allowed an earned run over 14 innings in two starts this season. He has struck out nine while allowing only nine hits. Opponents are hitting .184 against him.
