EVANSTON, Ill. –
Northwestern forward Nia Coffey registered her fourth consecutive double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds to lead No. 15 Northwestern over Milwaukee, 69-44, on Sunday afternoon at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Coffey has five double-doubles in eight games this season.

"I really just tried to emphasize offensive rebounding," Coffey said. "I try to make it a mission to crash the boards."

Northwestern improved to 8-0 in large part by playing suffocating defense, holding the visiting Panthers to just 20.3 percent from the field, the lowest mark any team has shot against the Wildcats this season. Milwaukee made just 13 shots and was only 3-for-28 from beyond the arc.

"I felt that everything we have been working on we did tonight," head coach Joe McKeown said. "We forced them to take some tough shots, and as far as defensive assignments, we did a really good job."

The Wildcats forced 21 turnovers, including 12 steals, eight of which came from point guard Ashley Deary.

Chicago's Big Ten Team turned defense into offense with 24 fastbreak points, outscoring Milwaukee by a significant 24-2 margin.

Northwestern shot 43 percent from three-point range and made 42 percent of its shots overall. Coffey was joined in double-figures by Deary with 12 and Maggie Lyon with 10.

Northwestern used a 12-0 run early in the first quarter to grab a lead that they would never relinquish. Milwaukee hung around for much of the first half but another big Northwestern run right before the end of the half gave the Wildcats a convincing 37-21 lead at the break.

Coffey nearly registered her double-double in the first half with 15 points and eight rebounds, and Deary was all over the court with eight points, five assists and five steals in the first 20 minutes.

The Wildcats used five different runs of seven or more points to pull away from Milwaukee at various points of the game.

"We are focused on what we can do to get better and our players have a great attitude about that," McKeown said. "It is really about us and not about who we are playing."

Chicago's Big Ten Team heads down Sheridan Road to take on Loyola next Sunday, Dec. 13. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
