Incoming Wildcat Roberts Earns Top-15 Finish At National Championships

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Incoming Wildcats freshman Aubrey Roberts finished 13th at the 2015 Foot Locker Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Balboa Park, finishing the the 5K course in 17:52.3 to earn a top result among a field of the nation's 40 best female high school runners.

"Aubrey is a talented and composed athlete and we are so excited for her," said Wildcats head coach 'AHavahla Haynes. "I am thrilled with her performance and look forward to having her at Northwestern."

The Eau Claire, Wisconsin, native is one of three gifted student-athletes that signed National Letters of Intent in November, Haynes' first class at Northwestern after taking over the program in the spring. She and her classmates will arrive on campus in the fall of 2016.

The Foot Locker Cross Country Championships are a series of races held annually across four regions (West, Midwest, Northeast, South) of the United States in order to determine the premier prep (high school) cross country athletes in the nation. The top ten boys and girls from each region qualify for the Foot Locker Championship. Roberts finished seventh (17:41.7) at the Midwest Regional to earn her spot in the San Diego field.

Roberts was part of the Memorial Old Abes team that won Wisconsin Division 1 State Cross Country Championships in 2014 and 2015. Individually she was a four-time Big Rivers Conference Cross Country Champion and four-time First Team All-State honoree. She captured the Wisconsin Division 1 Cross Country State Championship in 2015, winning by 38 seconds, after finishing as the runner-up in 2012 and 2014. Off the course, Roberts was the president of Memorial High School's National Honor Society and a member of the concert band.
