Northwestern Starts Strong at Wildcat Fall Duals

Wildcats perform well in matches with Yale

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's women's tennis team got off to a strong start at its own Wildcat Fall Duals on Friday as the 'Cats competed against Yale.

NU earned victories in two of the three doubles matches played on Friday. The team of Alex Chatt and Maddie Lipp continued their strong fall by posting a 6-3 win over the team of Madeleine Hamilton and Ree Ree Li. The Wildcats also got a victory from the duo of Erin Larner and Jillian Rooney who topped Tina Jiang and Valerie Shklover 6-4.

In singles play, Northwestern earned wins in five of their six matches. Chatt, Larner and Rooney all were winners in straight sets. Chatt took down Hamilton 7-5, 6-3 while Larner topped Li 6-2, 7-5 and Rooney defeated Elizabeth Zordani 6-4, 6-3.

Lipp and Lee Or both battled back from dropping their first sets to win in three. Lipp rallied past Jiang 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 and Or came from behind to top Carol Finke 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.

Action continues Saturday at Combe Tennis Center as the Wildcats take on opponents from Oklahoma beginning at 10 a.m.
