EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern junior forward Nia Coffey has been named to the John R. Wooden Award Preseason Top-30 List. The list is comprised of 30 student-athletes who are the early front-runners for college basketball's most prestigious honor. The list is chosen by a preseason poll of national women's college basketball media members.

Coffey, who was selected to the 2015-16 Preseason All-Big Ten team earlier this year, averaged 15.2 points per game, 9.7 rebounds per game and 1.8 blocks per game last season. She recorded a team-best 14 double-doubles and scored more than 20 points on seven occasions.

In Northwestern's season opener against Howard last Sunday, Coffey scored a game-best 27 points while tallying seven rebounds, four steals, three assists and a block. In the first quarter, the junior recorded her 1,000-career point to become the second active Wildcat to accomplish the feat.

Seven conferences are represented on the list with the SEC boasting seven selections, followed by the ACC and Big Ten with six apiece. Coffey is joined by Ohio State's Ameryst Alston and Kelsey Mitchell, Maryland's Brionna Jones and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and Michigan State's Aerial Powers to round out the Big Ten.

The 40th annual presentation of the John R. Wooden Award will take place during the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show over the Wooden Award Weekend from April 7-9, 2016.

Players not chosen to the preseason list are eligible for both the midseason list and the National Ballot. The National Ballot consists of 15 top players who have proven to their universities that they are also making progress toward graduation and maintaining a high cumulative 2.0 GPA. The Wooden Award All American Team, consisting of the nation's top five players, will be announced the week of the Final Four.
