EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern women's swimming and diving (4-0) is at home for the first time this season Saturday, as they host No. 18 Wisconsin (1-0) at 10:30 a.m. at the Norris Aquatics Center.
The 'Cats have been dominant thus far in the season, most recently defeating Illinois 173-127 on October 30. Prior to that, Northwestern swept the competition at the Chicago Quad (Oct. 24). At Illinois, NU won 10 of 16 events, including five 1-2 finishes.
The order of Saturday's action will be as follows: 200 medley relay, 3-meter diving, 1000 free, 200 free, 100 back, 100 breast, 200 fly, 50 free, 1-meter diving, 100 free, 200 back, 200 breast, 500 free, 100 fly, 400 IM and the 200 free relay.
FRESHMAN PHENOM
Diver Olivia Rosendahl (Los Angeles, Calif./Immaculate Heart) has taken the 2015-16 campaign by storm. In her first-ever event at the Chicago Quad, she finished in first from both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards — breaking Chicago's pool record in the latter. The next week at Illinois, she also swept both events. From three meters, she notched a score of 349.50 and the next-closest diver was 77 points below her. After that performance, she was rewarded by earning the Big Ten's Co-Freshman of the Week honors — her first-ever distinction in only her second week of competition. The California native is already an accomplished diver on a national and international level, as she took home bronze in the World University Games in Gwangju, South Korea, this past summer.
WHEN THEY LAST MET
On November 13, 2014, the 'Cats travelled to Madison, Wisconsin, to take on the No. 19 Badgers and fell 166.5-125.5. At the dual, Lacey Locke (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) took home first place in the 100 and 200 back and Mary Warren (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) won the 50 free with a strong 23.40 time.
LOCKE IT UP
Junior Lacey Locke (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) has been the Wildcats' top backstroker this year, leading the squad in both the 100 and 200 back. She had her best time of the season in the 100 back at the Chicago Quad, with a first-place time of 55.45. In the 200 back, she recorded another first-place time of 2:01.58, this time at Illinois.
MEDLEY MADNESS
Chicago's Big Ten Team has been dominant in the medley relay event, taking home first place-finishes in both the 200 and 400 yard races. At the Chicago Quad, the quartet of Locke, Julianne Kurke (Atlanta, Ga./Parkview), Julia Pratt (Vincennes, Ind./Vincennes Rivet) and Warren finished in 1:45.05, a Chicago pool record and good for first place. At Illinois, Locke, Kurke, Alex Grimes (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos) and Annika Winsnes (Singapore/United World College) took home first place with a time of 3:47.38.
WHO IS WISCONSIN?
Last time out, the Badgers topped the reigning Big Ten Champion Minnesota Golden Gophers by a score of 152-148. Freshman Jess Unicomb, a native of Australia, swept both of the backstroke events and junior Chase Kinney took home first place in both the 50 and 100 free. Wisconsin will travel to Bloomington, Indiana, to take on the Indiana Hoosiers on Friday before heading east to Evanston.
POOL TIME WITH THE 'CATS
Junior Katie Branch (Phoenix, Ariz./Horizon Honors) dives in the pool with freshman Olivia Rosendahl to discuss the first couple weeks of competition, her Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor and more in a special segment called "Pool Time with the 'Cats."
