2015 NCAA Midwest Regional β LIVE RESULTS
Β
Senior Elena Barham will lead the Wildcats into Lawrence after pacing the roster over its last two 6K events, including a team-best 21:17.2 result at the 2015 Big Ten Championships. Barham will be joined in the Regionals lineup by classmates Rachel Weathered and Megan O'Brien. Weathered was slowed by injury in the Big Ten Championships, but was Northwestern's second-fastest runner at the team's previous 6K event, the Pre-Nationals Invite in Louisville.
Β
Head coach 'AHavahla Haynes will also race juniors Elena Miller and Renee Wellmann, as well as sophomores Sara Coffey and Brooke Pigneri. The sophomores rounded out Northwestern's Top-3 behind Barham at the Big Ten Championships, with Pigneri crossing the line in 22:19.3 and Coffey right on her heels at 22:20.4.
Β
Four Big Ten Conference peers will join the Wildcats in Lawrence, with Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska also in a field that includes thirty-three teams from twelve conferences.
Β
In addition to the five Big Ten schools at the 2015 Midwest Regional, six Conference programs will compete in the Great Lakes Regional in Madison, Wis., and three will compete in the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Princeton, N.J.
Β
The top two teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team at each of the three regionals will advance to the NCAA Championships on Nov. 22 in Louisville, Ky. Additional teams and individual participants will be chosen through an at-large selection process, which will be announced via press release distributed by the NCAA on Saturday, Nov. 14 after 3 p.m. ET.
Β
The University of Kansas hosts its home cross-country meets at historic Rim Rock Farm, northwest of Lawrence. Before being donated to KU in 2004, historic Rim Rock Farm has been the home of the Jayhawks since the 1974 season. In addition to having two covered bridges as part of the course, Rim Rock Farm also features specific hills, turns and other landmarks, and dispersed throughout the course are silhouette statues of seven legendary Jayhawk distance runners.
