PACIFIC PALISADES Calif. -- Northwestern redshirt sophomore Maddie Lipp rallied back for a three-set victory to advance in the main draw at the Riviera Women's All-American Championship at Riviera Tennis Club on Thursday.
Lipp, who earned a berth in the main draw thanks to her runner-up finish at the ITA Summer Nationals back in August, earned a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Dartmouth's Taylor Ng in the opening-round matchup. The Lake Forest, Illinois, native will take on the draw's No. 3 seed, Maegan Manasse of California in Friday's second round. The victory of that matchup will move on to the quarterfinal round later in the day on Friday.
Earlier in the day on Thursday, Lipp teamed with Alex Chatt for a first-round matchup in the doubles main draw, but the Northwestern duo suffered an 8-4 loss at he hands of the Auburn team of Pleun Burgmans and Paula de Man. Alicia Barnett and Erin Larner previously were slated to team up in doubles action the main draw, but the team withdrew.
