'Cats Advance Three in Singles at ITA Midwest Regionals

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomores Alex Chatt, Erin Larner and Maddie Lipp all advanced to the round of 16 of the singles main draw, highlighting Northwestern's Saturday at the ITA Midwest Regionals.

Chatt advanced along as she received an opening-round bye and then advanced past teammate Lee Or, 6-0, 6-0. Or had earned a 7-5, 6-3 opening round victory over Akron's Adiadna Blinova. Larner also had a first-round bye before winning her lone match of the day, rallying back to defeat Wisconsin's Ekaterina Stepanova 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. Lipp, the No. 2 seed in the draw, was yet another Wildcat to receive a first-round bye before she knocked off Jade Hilton of Illinois 6-0, 7-5.

Also in action for the Wildcats in singles play on Saturday were Jillian Rooney and Brooke Rischbieth. Rooney suffered a 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 loss to Eastern Michigan's Klara Supejova while Rischbieth was defeated by Michigan State's Athena Trouillot 7-5, 6-4.

In doubles action, the second seeded NU duo of Rooney and Larner moved on to Sunday's quarterfinal round by posting an 8-6 win over the Marquette team of Erin Gebes and Silvia Ambrosio. The Wildcats' pairing of Rischbieth and Or wasn't as unfortunate as they were defeated by Ohio State's Miho Kowase and Anna Sanford, 8-3.

Action continues Sunday at the University of Michigan with the quarterfinal round at 9 a.m. Central time, while singles play starts at noon.
