Wildcats Tune Up For B1G Championships Friday At Illini Open
10/22/2015 2:26:00 PM | Women's Cross Country & Track
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Northwestern cross country heads south on Friday to the Illini Open, hosted by the University of Illinois at the UI Arboretum. The women's race is set to start at 4 p.m. CT with a men's race to follow at 4:40 p.m.
The field includes a number of in-state foes beyond the host Illini, with Bradley, Eastern Illinois, Illinois State, and Loyola making the trip, joined by nearby interstate rivals Purdue and Butler.
Head coach 'AHavahlah Haynes' lineup will feature Mallory Abel, Haley Albers, Megan Beach, Erica Grubbs, Allison Jacobsen, Grace Kelly, Ashley Ko, Hannah Rose, Ellen Schmitz and Renee Wellman, as well as Victoria Bianco running unattached in the field. As the last race of the regular-season, the results will go a long way towards determining who Haynes and assistant coach Audrey Huth will run at the Big Ten Championships next weekend in Chicago.
The Illini Open is Northwestern's final tune-up before hosting the 2015 Big Ten Cross Country Championships on Sunday, Nov. 1 at the Sydney Marovitz Golf Course on Chicago's north side. Admission to the event is free for all spectators, with the competition between some of the nation's top collegiate distance runners set to kick off at 10:45 a.m. CT just north of the Clock Tower.
