No. 22 Northwestern Blanks Michigan State, 1-0

10/11/2015 2:42:00 PM | Women's Soccer

EAST LANSING, Ill. – Sophomore Lauren Clem recorded a season-best seven saves as Northwestern rebounded with a 1-0 win over Michigan State on Sunday afternoon at DeMartin Stadium.

The Wildcats now hold a 10-3-2 overall record in 2015, surpassing their total wins from just a year ago.

Fifth-year senior Niki Sebo recorded her third goal of the year, but it was the defense that was the story of the day. The 'Cats recorded their ninth shutout of the season behind another clean sheet from Clem.

Michigan State opened the contest with four-consecutive shots before the Wildcats could notch one of their own, but it was Northwestern that jumped on the board first. Junior Kourtney Scott launched a header between the pipes, but her attempt was blocked. Junior Addie Steiner picked up the rebound and flicked the ball to Sebo who found the back of the net to put NU on top 1-0 in the early minutes.

The Spartans outshot the Wildcats, 19-13, but MSU's attack was no match for Northwestern's defense as the #B1GCats hung on for the win.

Sebo led Northwestern with three shots, while Scott and Steiner recorded two shots apiece.

The Wildcats return to Toyota Park on Thursday, Oct. 15, when they host Nebraska. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the entrance of Toyota Park or by calling 888-GO-PURPLE.
