EVANSTON, Ill. -- After Northwestern's first attempt to open the 2014 season was rained out last week, the Wildcats are eager for their debut Friday evening at the Badger Season-Opener hosted by Wisconsin. The women's 4K race is slated for 5 p.m. CT at Wisconsin's Zimmer Cross Country Course.
The 'Cats will be lining up against several familiar foes from the Midwest Region, including DePaul, Loyola (Chicago), Marquette, Illinois State and host Wisconsin, along with Edgewood College.
Northwestern faced a similar field in the Badger Season-Opener a year ago (Sept. 6, 2013) and managed to walk away with the team title in the event. The 'Cats claimed the top two individual places overall, with 2013 senior Michelle Moriset crossing first followed by then-freshman Andrea Ostenso in her first collegiate meet. A Wisconsin native, Ostenso recorded a 4K time of 14:19 in her first career meet, and was joined in the top 5 of NU runners by 2013 returners Megan O'Brien (14:30) and Elena Barham (14:40).
After Friday night's event, the Wildcats are off from competition until the Big Ten Preview meet on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Iowa, site of this fall's Big Ten Championships.
