EVANSTON, Ill. - Freshman Erin Larner headlined a strong second day for the Northwestern women's tennis team, advancing to the final round in her draw.

Larner has won all eight sets she has played, including four on Saturday. In the quarterfinals, she beat Keti Mebuke of UIC, 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the afternoon's semifinals, where she met Nerma Caluk from Florida International. Larner breezed past, 6-2, 6-0 and will play DePaul's Rebeca Mitrea Sunday morning.

Sophomores Jillian Rooney and Brooke Rischbieth split their respective matches on Saturday. Rooney beat Pittsburgh's Lolade Ogungbesan 10-4 in a third-set tiebreak to advance to the semifinals, where she fell to Yuliya Shupenia from DePaul. Rischbieth beat DePaul's Jasmin Kling in the quarterfinals before falling in a narrow 10-8 tiebreak to Carlotta Orlando from Florida International.

Alex Chatt picked up a couple of wins on Saturday, beating Klara Supejova from Eastern Michigan and Erin Faulkner of Michigan State. Rheeya Doshi added a win over Amanda Wickman of Pitt before falling to DePaul's Mitrea in the semifinals.

Final action will begin on Sunday at 9 a.m from the Vandy Christie Tennis Center.

Meanwhile, at the the ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., Northwestern's contingent began competition in the pre-qualifying round. In singles, Lok Sze Leung fell to Lexi Borr of Boston College 6-2, 6-4 while Manon Peri was knocked off by Kate Vialle of North Carolina 6-2, 6-3. Junior Alicia Barnett faced the eighth-seeded player in the pre-qualifying draw and took Kentucky's Aldila Sutjiadi to three sets but fell in a nail-biter, 3-6, 7-6, 7-6.

Peri and Leung fared better in doubles where they teamed up to defeat the team of Tiffany William and Nayara Moraes of Middle Tennessee State, 8-3. They'll take on Ryann Foster and Danielle Wagland of Texas on Sunday with a spot in the qualifying round on the line.
