ANN ARBOR, Mich. - In a battle of the two remaining unbeaten teams in the Big Ten, No. 17 Michigan narrowly prevailed over 11th-ranked Northwestern, 4-3. The Wolverines moved one match ahead of NU in the conference with five regular-season contests left to be played.

The `Cats split the singles matches with Michigan but dropped the doubles point with losses at one and three. No. 21 Veronica Corning and Alicia Barnett were defeated by the 18th-ranked duo of Brooke Bolender and Emina Bektas, 8-4. The Wolverines clinched the match's first point when No. 66 Sarah Lee and Amy Zhu beat Manon Peri and Belinda Niu, 8-5.

Veronica Corning provided the highlight of the match for Northwestern, knocking off Michigan's ninth-ranked Emina Bektas 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. The win was Corning's 10th of the 2014 season, making her the second Wildcat, along with Belinda Niu, to reach double digit wins this season.

Another ranked Wolverine went down at the No. 3 spot when Alicia Barnett beat No. 119 Brooke Bolender by a 1-6, 6-3, 7-5 score. Lok Sze Leung was the third Wildcat to post a win on Saturday, taking down Laura Ucros 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

Michigan clinched the win at No. 4. 123rd-ranked Sarah Lee beat Manon Peri 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 to give the Wolverines the fourth and final point.

Northwestern will return to action tomorrow as the team travels to East Lansing to take on Michigan State. The match will begin at 10 a.m.
