CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Northwestern took down No. 7 Texas A&M on Friday in a Round of 16 thriller at the ITA National Indoor Team Championships. The 16th-ranked Wildcats beat the Aggies 4-3 in a dual that was not decided until the last match.

Northwestern was the only unseeded team in the tournament to advance past the first round.

The `Cats started the evening by claiming the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Veronica Corning and Alicia Barnett, making up the 35th-ranked doubles team in the nation, handled No. 22 Cristina Stancu and Stefania Hristov by a 6-3 score. To clinch the point, Maddie Lipp and Nida Hamilton upset No. 51 Rutuja Bhosale and Ines Deheza 7-5.

After falling behind after the first set, Veronica Corning continued her unbeaten run, taking down No. 14 Cristina Stancu 4-6, 6-3, 10-7. Corning is 4-0 on the season with all four wins coming against ranked opponents.

Nida Hamilton defeated Rutuja Bhosale at No. 6 by a 7-5, 6-1 score. Northwestern was able to advance past the Aggies when Belinda Niu, playing at No. 2, took down Saska Gavrilovska 7-5, 6-2.

NU will face top-seeded Florida in the quarterfinal round on Saturday at 2:30. The Gators are the 2nd-ranked team in the country. Florida boasts six ranked players. The highest ranked Gator is Olivia Janowicz at No. 17. Brianna Morgan is No. 18, and Alex Cercone finds herself ranked No. 23. Sofie Oyen is the No. 27-ranked player in the country. Belinda Woolcock is 36th, and Kourtney Keegan is ranked No. 39. The Gators have one ranked doubles team consisting of Belinda Woolcock and Sofie Oyen. The duo is No. 32.
