EVANSTON, Ill. - More than one Northwestern team will be in South Bend, Ind. this weekend to take on Notre Dame. Head coach Laurie Schiller's fencing squads will be in action Friday night against the Fighting Irish at the Castellan Family Fencing Center in a unique exhibition event.
The two programs will work alongside one another during the early afternoon by partaking in various bouts in a round-robin fashion. The main event begins at 6:30 p.m. CT/7:30 p.m. ET when the Wildcats and Fighting Irish will square off in a 60-touch relay. The relay features one weapon at a time and after the first side reaches 20 touches, a new weapon is featured. The head coaches will flip a coin to determine which school gets to choose the order of the night.
Northwestern fell to Notre Dame in the inaugural event in 2013, 60-42.
Friday's main event is free and open to fans of both NU and UND who may already be in South Bend for Saturday's football game between the two schools. The Castellan Fencing Center is conveniently located in the North Dome of the Joyce Athletic Convocation Center.
