Leung, Rischbieth Advance to Doubles Semifinal at USTA Invite

ORLANDO, Fla. - Lok Sze Leung and Brooke Rischbieth earned a spot in the semifinals of the doubles "A" draw at the USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational in Orlando, Fla. on Friday. After an opening day 8-1 victory, Leung and Rischbieth were winners by default Friday afternoon.
The duo will play Daneika Borthwick and Emily Fanning from host school Florida State at 11:30 a.m. Saturday for a spot in the finals.
Leung led the way in singles play for the `Cats by defeating Illinois' Louise Kwong in an early morning matchup in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals of draw "B." She played Wendy Zhang of Miami in the round and fell 6-3, 6-3.
The remaining three participants from NU were defeated in the Round of 16 Friday morning. Manon Peri took the first set from Miami's Lina Lileikite, the No. 2 seed in draw "A" by a 6-2 score, but Lileikite overcame Peri's early advantage to win the final two sets. The draw's third-seed, Francesca Fusinato, beat Brooke Rischbieth in straight sets. The Virginia Tech player jumped out to an early advantage and took the match 6-2, 6-4. In draw "B," Jillian Rooney ran into Miami's Clementina Riobueno and lost 6-3, 6-1.
After receiving a first-round bye, Peri and Rooney teamed up to take on Elena Cerezo-Cordina and Sansitha Nandakumar from Virginia Tech in the doubles draw "B" quarterfinals. Peri and Rooney lost 8-2.
The trio of Northwestern freshmen was in action in Tuscaloosa, Ala. at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic on Friday. All three won their first round matches before falling in the second.
Alex Chatt won handily over Rachel Daniell of UAB, 6-1, 6-0 in her first match of the day. Chatt then faced off against Luicelena Perez from host Alabama and lost after a hard-fought second set. Erin Larner was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Georgia Tech's Kendl Woodard and was then defeated by the same score by Alabama's Natalia Maynetto. Rounding out the day for Wildcats was Rheeya Doshi with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Marija Milutinovic from Ole Miss. Doshi also lost to a member of the Crimson Tide, falling to Emily Zabor in the semifinals of her draw.
Chatt and Doshi teamed up for an 8-4 win in doubles play over Jesse Grace and Brittany Huxley of Middle Tennessee State. The doubles semifinal match will be played Saturday morning.
All three players will have singles matches on Saturday.
