EVANSTON, Ill. -- The start of the 2014-15 college wrestling season is rapidly approaching, which means it's also time to secure your seats at one of the sport's signature events, the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships hosted by Northwestern University. Slated for Dec. 29-30, the 52nd edition of the event promises to offer fans two days of non-stop competition featuring many of the nation's top-ranked teams and individuals.
Fans also will want to be on hand for the first Midlands Championships since the installation of four state-of-the-art, HD-quality videoboards inside Welsh-Ryan Arena. With regularly updating bout schedules and team standings as well as mat-side video streaming, the videoboards will revolutionize the spectator experience for attendees of this year's Ken Kraft Midlands Championships.
Tickets to the event are on sale now and available by downloading and returning the 2014 ticket order form or by calling the Northwestern ticket office at 888-GO-PURPLE. All-session passes are available for as low as $40.
The host Northwestern Wildcats enter the season ranked eighth nationally in InterMat's NCAA Tournament Rankings and have five wrestlers ranked in the top 20 at their respective weight classes. The group is headlined by No. 1-ranked and defending NCAA 149-pound champion Jason Tsirtsis as well as returning NCAA All-Americans Mike McMullan (No. 2, HWT) and Pierce Harger (No. 5, 165). Junior Dominick Malone (No. 19, 133) and senior Alex Polizzi (No. 11, 197) round out the list of 'Cats in InterMat's preseason weight class rankings.
Head coach Drew Pariano and the Wildcats open the dual season on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Stanford, and make their 2014 Welsh-Ryan Arena debut on Sunday, Nov. 30, vs. Lehigh.
