EVANSTON, Ill. -- In the Golfweek Magazine college preview issue published early in September -- and online Tuesday -- college golf writer Lance Ringler declared a deep Northwestern team a national championship contender in the brand new match play format debuting for the women this year.

"Consider a team that enters the NCAAs among the top 10-15 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings. A team with strong players in the fourth and fifth spots and places among the top eight after 72 holes could be a tough out. This year, that team looks a lot like Northwestern," Ringler writes.

"The Wildcats, a preseason No. 13, return four of their top five players from a year ago and add a top freshman. That mix should provide the depth to be competitive in match play."
