Wildcats Gear Up for Notre Dame Invitational Friday

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's competitive season hits full stride this Friday when it participates in the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend. The 'Cats are entered in the highly competitive Blue Division Race, a 5K event featuring 24 teams from around the country, 23 of which appear in the latest USTFCCCA Regional Rankings.
Start time for the women's Blue Division race is slated for 3:15 p.m. CT in South Bend.
The Wildcats are currently seventh in the Midwest Region and this weekend will have one of their best opportunities to test themselves against top Division I runners, specifically those that they will see later this season at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships. Bradley (fifth), Tulsa (sixth) and Southern Illinois (eighth) each will be both at Friday's Notre Dame Invitational as well as NU's Regional Championships event in November.
Northwestern also ran in the top-flight Blue Division a year ago at Notre Dame. The 'Cats walked away with a 12th-place finish, and then-freshman Andrea Ostenso was NU's top finisher for the first time in her young career, placing 33rd overall with an excellent 5K effort of 17:46.4. Returners Jena Pianin and Camille Blackman also were among Northwestern's top-5 finishers the last time the 'Cats ran in South Bend.
