EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern will lift the lid on the 2013-14 campaign this Saturday, September 28 when it hosts the United States Fencing Association (USFA) Burton Open on campus at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion. The all-day event is scheduled to begin with the mixed foil competition at 7:45 a.m.

The women's epée event will be held at approximately 9:15 a.m. with women's sabre to follow at around 11:45 a.m. The women's foil event is slated for 2:15 p.m.

The Wildcats have captured gold medals in all three weapons at Burton Open in each of the last two seasons. At the 2012 event, junior Courtney Dumas successfully defended her gold medal in women's epée. A pair of now-departed Wildcats, Alicia Gurrieri and Dayana Sarkisova, claimed the top spot on the medal stand in sabre and foil, respectively.

In all, Northwestern placed 11 fencers in the top 10 across all three weapons at the Burton Open both last year, and in 2011.

Please be advised that, due to construction, the entrance to the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion is currently located on the south side of the building.
