EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern welcomes a highly-competitive field, which includes seven squads that advanced to the 2013 NCAA Championships and nine that are currently ranked in the Golfstat.com top-25, to the sixth annual Windy City Collegiate Classic. This year's tournament returns to the Northmoor Country Club (820 Edgewood Road) in Highland Park, Ill., the site of the 2010 Windy City Collegiate Classic.
The 15-team field is one of the strongest in the six years of the tournament as Northwestern welcomes NCAA Champions from a year ago, USC, along with Purdue (third), Arizona (eighth), Oklahoma State (12th), Stanford (T-13th) and Florida (17th) who all competed at the 2013 NCAA Championships (NU finished 15th). Additionally, fellow Big Ten foes Minnesota and Ohio State are set to visit Highland Park.
This group also represents a number of highly-ranked teams in the latest Golfstat.com poll. Eleven of the 15 teams appear in the top 40 of the latest poll including nine in the top-25. Those ranked teams include No. 2 USC, No. 5 Oklahoma State, No. 10 Arizona, No. 12 Florida, No. 14 Iowa State, No. 15 Stanford, No. 17 Georgia, No. 22 Louisville, No. 24 Ohio State, No. 33 Northwestern and No. 37 Minnesota.
The 2013 Windy City Collegiate Classic begins Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. with tee times off the first and 10th holes. The tournament features 36 holes on Monday and concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes teeing off from the first and 10th holes at 7:30 a.m.
Admission is FREE for the 2013 Windy City Collegiate Classic.
Northwestern has played two tournaments so far this fall season, finishing fourth at both events. The Wildcats most recently had three place within the top 20, four in the top 25, at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational last weekend in Albuquerque, N.M. First-team All-Big Ten honoree Hana Lee led Northwestern, finishing in a tie for seventh at 1-under 218.
The defending Big Ten champions look for a strong showing at their home tournament against a highly-competitive field. For those unable to make it to the 2013 Windy City Collegiate Classic, follow all the action with live results from Golfstat.com.
