More than any single championship or individual achievement, the legacy of Northwestern Athletics is defined by the great character of people who have donned the purple and white over the last century. It is those individuals -- student-athletes, coaches and administrators -- whose firsthand accounts of their experiences have the ability to freeze in time many of the defining moments in the department's history. Their stories are the inspiration for a new series on NUsports.com called 'CAT TALES, an attempt to provide a unique and comprehensive audio history of Northwestern Athletics.

In honor of Sunday's second annual 'Run For Walk' 4.1-mile race, the first edition of 'Cat Tales focuses on the circumstances that brought together the last two head coaches of Northwestern Football -- Pat Fitzgerald and the late Randy Walker. In it, Fitzgerald speaks poignantly about his first encounter with the one-of-a-kind Walker, who brought Northwestern's most decorated defensive player back to his alma mater as an assistant coach in 2001.
